For construction & trade business owners

The business works.
Just not without you.

We help construction and trade owners build companies that depend on them less over time, so the business supports the life they actually want.

If it feels like a prison… it probably is.

A three-minute look at how dependent the business is on you.

The business works, just not without you. And that’s heavy.

Because you’ve built something real. Revenue is there. People rely on you. But everything still runs through you. Every decision, every problem eventually lands on you.

And stepping away? That doesn’t feel realistic. Or, life has shown you it isn’t… yet.

That’s not an exit problem.
It’s a structural problem.

And that means it’s not something to wait on. It’s something you start building in your business today.

Owner dependency

Today

Every line runs through one person.

What we build toward

BIDSCREWSPAYROLLCLIENTSVENDORSHIRINGCASHFIRESYOU

Structure carries the load. Not you, everywhere.

Great exits are usually built long before the final transition ever happens.

You don’t plan your way into a great exit.

You build your way into one.

So we don’t start with an exit. We start with how the business is actually built:

  • Where value is being left inside the business
  • Where things break under pressure
  • Where it still depends on you

Then we strengthen what’s underneath it, so the business becomes less dependent on you over time.

What that creates over time

More clarity

You can see where the business actually stands, and what it depends on.

Less pressure

Fewer decisions land on you by default, because the structure catches them first.

A business that doesn't need you everywhere

Systems that hold. Leadership that can operate independently.

And for the first time: real freedom.

Our methodology

The Builders Value Acceleration Program™

Phase 1 · Discovery

See It Clearly

You can't fix what you can't see. And it's hard to see it when you're inside it.

Phase 2 · Evaluation

Fix What's Holding It Back

This is often where value gets trapped, and where meaningful improvements can begin.

Phase 3 · Selection

Build Long-Term Optionality

So flexibility, value, and future options stay on the table.

Jason P. Berube

Meet Jason

I grew up around people who built things with their hands: construction crews, family businesses, job sites, men who left before sunrise, came home exhausted, and quietly carried the pressure of payroll, projects, employees, and family whether anyone saw it or not.

After more than 17 years in financial services, I founded Cornerstone to help construction and trade business owners reduce owner dependency, increase transferable business value, and build businesses that create more flexibility for the future.

Questions owners ask first

Before the call.

Short answers. The long ones happen in conversation.

Who is Cornerstone built for?

Owners of construction and trade businesses. Contractors, subcontractors, specialty trades, and the family companies behind them. Most are somewhere between growing but still carrying too much, and successful but still more dependent than the business should be.

Do I need to be thinking about selling?

No. Most owners we work with are not planning an exit. They are trying to build a business that does not need them in every decision. That is where the value comes from, whether you ever sell or not.

Do you replace my accountant or attorney?

No. We help the professionals already around the business work together instead of separately. Tax, legal, insurance, and succession conversations tend to happen in isolation. We coordinate them.

What does the first conversation look like?

A short intro call. No pitch, no pressure. We talk about where the business is today, where it still depends on you, and whether the timing makes sense to do anything about it.

Where do you work?

Cornerstone is based in Beverly, Massachusetts and works with owners across the North Shore, Greater Boston, and beyond. Much of the work happens over video, so location rarely gets in the way.

If you’re beginning to think more seriously about structure, succession, or long-term optionality, that’s the conversation.
